At Bertin Alpao, we are proud to develop a complete ecosystem to address the technological challenges of adaptive optics (AO). In addition to our products, or hardware, such as deformable mirrors, real time computers and wavefront sensors, we offer two software modules to support you in the development, simulation, and deployment of adaptive optics systems: ACE (Alpao Core Engine) and its latest version ACE-SIM (Alpao Core Engine Simulation).
ACE – Controlling an AO loop has never been easier
ACE is our historical control software and graphical user interface (GUI) designed to connect a Deformable Mirror (DM) and a WaveFront Sensor (WFS) in order to close the adaptive optics loop. Hardware-oriented and user-friendly, ACE ensures reliable integration with Bertin Alpao components, while remaining compatible with third-party hardware.
This software enables fast and efficient development of your own adaptive optics system: it processes signals from the sensor and drives the DM to dynamically correct optical aberrations.

ACE-SIM – A new advanced simulation tool to prepare your systems
With our new version, called ACE-SIM, Bertin Alpao offers, in addition to all ACE features, a simulation module designed to simulate and test the performance of an AO system before purchasing the components.
In other words, it allows engineers and researchers to define the specifications of their future AO system by testing different configurations (type of DM, sensors, observation conditions…), simulating realistic scenarios, and anticipating system performance in an operational environment.
ACE-SIM is based on MATLAB (license not supplied), ensuring easy adoption for users familiar with this environment and smooth integration into existing simulation chains.
A tailor-made solution for industry
This software is particularly suited for large industrial groups wishing to design their own adaptive optics system and test architectures before implementation, thereby reducing the risks associated with the development of high-performance systems.
It has special features dedicated to FSO systems, also enabling to estimate the fiber coupling and attenuation. AO solutions such as the one implemented at FrOGS featuring a DM, a SH WFS, a tip-tilt mirror and a tip-tilt sensor were first tested using ACE-SIM.
ACE-SIM can load complex fields representing phase and amplitude aberrations, representative of the perturbation expected at the Optical Ground Station.
